A treatment adaptation is warranted when a clinical problem is identified within a given community with specific risk and resilience factors. Although it is in its infancy, research demonstrating the effectiveness of adapting DBT for use with individuals involved in the legal system is growing. DBT with these individuals is challenging; it is a delicate balance between adequately addressing internal and external needs.

New Perspectives on Counseling Black Men (February 28th | 2 Hours, 2 CEs): During this live program, Courtland C. Lee, PhD, discusses mental health challenges confronting Black men in contemporary society, and leads participants to identify barriers and develop a framework for counseling with Black men. -- Dr. Lee is a Fellow and Past President of the American Counseling Association. He is the former editor of the Journal of African American Men. A retired counselor educator, he has held faculty positions at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of Virginia, and the University of Maryland at College Park.
Behavioral Health Aspects of Sleep Apnea (March 1st | 1 Hour, 1 CE): Designed for professionals, this training introduces attendees to the causes, consequences, and red flag indicators of sleep apnea among behavioral health populations. Screening and intervention considerations will also be discussed through a behavioral health lens. -- Jerrod Brown, Ph.D., M.A., M.S., M.S., M.S., is a professor, trainer, researcher, and consultant with multiple years of experience teaching collegiate courses. Jerrod has also provided consultation services to a number of professionals and organizations pertaining to topics on confabulation, suggestibility, trauma, and other life adversities, including traumatic brain injury (TBI).
Counseling with Women Applying a Mujerista, Relational Approach March 7th | 2 Hours, 2 CEs: Lead by Patricia Arredondo, Ed.D., participants will discuss women-centric models that empower and lead to self-efficacy.
