Evidence-Based Treatment of Intimate Partner Abuse (July 7th | 4 Hours, 4 CEs):This live program, presented by John Hamel, PhD, LCSW, will provide a brief overview of current intervention policies on domestic violence, and identify areas in need of improvement. There will be an emphasis on reconciling diverse points of view regarding intervention policies and methods so that perpetrators are held accountable and victim safety is increased while addressing the mental health needs of everyone involved.
That Which We Do Not Know, Autism & Threat (July 27th | 3 Hours, 3 CEs): Diving into the topic, during this live program Dr. Leite will cover general information on ASD and crime, carefully explain the difference between ASD and psychopathic behavior, and use research to identify factors that create greater and less risk in the population. Participants will review the Sandy Hook Advisory Commission’s report, applying new knowledge to the report. The training will conclude with a tabletop exercise utilizing breakout rooms for an interactive and boisterous finale.
This live program, presented by Michael L. Perlin, JD and Heather Ellis Cucolo in partnership with Mental Disability Law and Policy Associates,
will touch upon the possible policy, legal, and therapeutic points of intervention, geared toward shifting the relationship between law, trauma, and persons with mental disabilities, with a special focus on the relationship between trauma and incompetency, insanity, and sentencing.
A conversation with Dr. Brett Wilkinson about the intersections of humanism and neuroscience with implications for counseling practice. Dr. Wilkinson actively presents at state, regional, and national conferences, serves on the editorial board for a national counseling journal, and is coauthor of the textbook Educational Psychology for Learners: Connecting Theory, Research, and Application.
