Interventions Based on Operant Conditioning

 

By understanding the principles of operant conditioning, we can gain insights into how rewards and punishments shape our actions and influence our future behavior. Its power lies in its ability to shape behavior through the strategic use of reinforcers. Rewards vary widely and are dependent on individual preferences and context. For example, they can range from tangible rewards like gifts or incentives to intangible rewards like praise or recognition.

  • Case Law Series: Criminal Responsibility | August 24th, 4 Hours, 4 CEs: In this live training program, Bob Stinson, PsyD, JD, ABPP, will review case law in the area of criminal responsibility and discuss its implications when it comes to completing criminal responsibility evaluations. This program will be useful for individuals who are developing their expertise in criminal responsibility, those who are considering board certification, and those who have advanced knowledge in criminal responsibility evaluations but want a refresher on landmark cases and recent rulings. 

  • Assessment of Defendants’ Competency for Self-Representation | August 25th, 3 Hours, 3 CEs: The focus of this training is the evaluation of defendants whose ability to participate in the criminal process is not (or no longer) in question but whose competence to proceed without legal counsel remains at issue. This intermediate training, led by Maureen Reardon, PhD, ABPP, is intended for forensic psychologists working in court clinics, institutional settings, and the private sector; as a practical resource for relevant caselaw, literature, and evidenced-based assessment strategies for approaching the unusual case of a defendant who is competent to proceed with counsel, but may or may not be competent of proceeding without counsel.
